The Reichshoffen lake was filled with water in 1982. About ten years later, it was classified as a Voluntary Nature Reserve after its colonization by a diverse aquatic fauna. In 2014, it obtained the Regional Nature Reserve label. It is a public safety work for regulating the Schwarzbach river and thus preventing flooding in the old town. Its water surface extends over nearly 16 hectares. It is now a popular hiking spot with its 2,4 km circuit and fitness trail. Apart from fishing on its front part, any other activity is strictly prohibited: hunting, swimming, boating, camping.
Nearby: the chapel of Wohlfahrtshoffen, the well of a thousand babies, the Eselsbreckel footbridge, the botanical trail, the sports trail, the ruins of the Rauchenwasser forge...
An ornithological observatory is also available to lovers of fauna and flora.
