Unprecedented in the planet's history, the current climate and ecological crisis, primarily caused by human activities, compels us to react without further delay.

A master of adaptation, Homo sapiens has successfully navigated successive ice ages and warm periods. By documenting how ancient societies exploited natural resources and responded to environmental and climatic constraints, archaeology highlights the complexity of this relationship, which necessitates mutual understanding and, in times of crisis, triggers radical changes.

Through 12 panels, the exhibition presents 6 examples rich in lessons that have occurred during the history of humanity: the end of the ice age, the advent of agriculture, the exploitation of the forest, floodplains… with their sometimes unexpected consequences.

Archaeology allows the younger generation to step back, spark a new imagination, and view the present from a different perspective. This exhibition provides an opportunity to engage with students on current environmental issues. It can be complemented by a visit to the Museum, particularly its prehistoric section, which boasts a wealth of artifacts related to the exhibition, as well as workshops offered in our educational resources guide: spear throwing, the archaeology of fire, and more.
