The eldest of 11 children, daughter of Georges EPPINGER, a farmer, and Barbe VOGT, Elisabeth was born in this house on September 9, 1814. Elisabeth EPPINGER only attended school for a few years, but very early showed deep personal piety. In fragile health, often ill and bedridden, her sufferings will help her prepare to fulfill her mission. She had only one dream, that of becoming a nun, of helping the sick and the poor, of taking in orphans and offering them an education.
