Its construction is attributed to the Duke of Lorraine around the middle of the 12th century to protect the Abbey of Sturzelbronn. In 1297, the counts of Bitche, guarantors of the Lorraine border, received the castle as their property. It became a sub-fief of the Fleckensteins in 1363 and then fell into the hands of Wirich de Hohenbourg in 1450. In 1570, the castle was occupied by the troops of the Duke of Lorraine. The place will be abandoned in 1606. For some, the Lutzelhardt was already in ruins, possibly destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525. Others argue that the castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War... It remains today remains of the square keep, several dwellings, wells, cistern-reservoir...

Access: from Obersteinbach, take the D 3 in the direction of Sturzelbronn to the parking lot of the Maison Forestière de Lutzelhardt. From there, take the path marked with a yellow rectangle on foot (GR 532). It takes 20 minutes to walk to the castle.
