The church takes its name from and pays homage to the first bishop of Strasbourg, Saint-Arbogast. In the XNUMXth century, part of the relics of Saint-Arbogast was transferred from Strasbourg to Surbourg. This translation will lead to the construction of the Saint-Arbogast church in the XNUMXth century (first Alsatian Romanesque art).

This religious monument is on the Route Romane d'Alsace, along with the Abbey Church of Saints-Pierre-et-Paul in Wissembourg and the Church of Saint-Ulrich in Altenstadt.

The building rises on a basilical plan with three ceilinged naves ending in a transept and vaulted apses in cul-de-four. Inside, the large arcades rest on alternating supports: columns with cubic capitals and masonry pillars with simple transoms. Note the quality of the apparatus in small rubble alternating red and gray sandstone (outside the nave and apse of the north apsidiole) as well as the decorative size of the facings (inside pillars of the nave).
