This building, dating from 1852, succeeds an ancient Judeo-Alsatian house of study and prayer from the 18th century that had become too small, which was located at No. 4 rue des Jews. This large synagogue has not been used as such since 1967.
Its architecture is extremely rare and unique in Alsace. It is located in a garden hidden from view on an old street in old Reichshoffen, part of the hidden synagogues of the Ancien Régime.
