This building, dating from 1852, replaced an old 18th-century Judeo-Alsatian house of study and prayer, which had become too small, located at number 4 Rue des Juifs. This large synagogue has not been used as such since 1967.
Its architecture is extremely rare and unique in Alsace. It is located in a garden hidden from view on an old street in the old Reichshoffen, and is one of the hidden synagogues of the Ancien Régime.
