Built in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1897 during the German period, it was the third synagogue erected in Soultz-sous-Forêts. The surrounding neighborhood, enclosed by a cluster of small half-timbered houses, was once inhabited by Jewish families. The Jewish community left the countryside after the Second World War to settle in the town.
Recently, the Soultz-sous-Forêts synagogue was inaugurated for the third time since its construction. In fact, new work was launched in May 2015. It aimed to install authentic stained glass windows and restore the bulbs on the turrets.
This religious building has been listed as a historical monument since 1994; this synagogue still bore some scars from the Second World War. These traces of a painful past have now been completely erased.
