This crossing of the Vosges massif will allow you to discover during your walk the riches of the country of Niederbronn-les-Bains.
From fortified castle to fortified castle (Wittschloessel, Old Windstein, New Windstein), the route reaches the Schwarzbach valley via the GR 53. The latter has retained a particular type of works from the Maginot Line: dams that allowed it to be flooded quickly to slow down or even stop any invasion.
A long ascent to the Tower of Grand Wintersberg, the dominating summit of the Northern Vosges, will be rewarded with a magnificent panorama before descending to the hydro-mineral resort of Niederbronn-les-Bains: the most important spa center in Alsace.
By the botanical path, we quickly reach the ruins of the castle of Wasenbourg which dominates Niederbronn-les-Bains. Further on, a cable's length away, stands the Wasenkoepfel observation tower from which we can see Lichtenberg Castle slightly to the southwest, which we will reach later. Previously we go to the ruins of the Grand Arnsbourg castle and cross the large forest massif which separates the valley of Zinsel du Nord from the valley of Rothbach.
